Mayowa Taiwo Profile

Mayowa Taiwo has been a force for George Washington women's basketball. She finished her career as a member of the Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team in 2022-23 and she began as a member of the A-10 All-Rookie team in 2019-20. Along the way she collected 793 career rebounds ranking her ninth all-time in program history.


Taiwo was a three-time member of the GW Dean's List and also was a member of the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2022-23.


An active volunteer, Taiwo served as a volunteer coach for Angel Tree Basketball camp and was a volunteer assistant for both Grassroots and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. She was on the FCA Student Leadership Team and was a leadership program member for LEAPP, the Revolutionaries Leadership Academy. Taiwo also served on the GW Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and she served as the SAAC Advocacy Chair in 2022-23.

Q & A

Who or what has been your biggest inspiration or motivation?

My biggest motivation is to leave no stone unturned and reach the extent of my potential so that I have no regrets at the end of the day.


What hard goals have you set and/or accomplish?

Being a DI athlete was a hard goal that I set and have now accomplished.


What are three words your teammates would use to describe you, and why?

Gentle because I bring a sense of warmth and comfort to those around me. Versatile because I am able to do a variety of things on and off the court and have many different interests. Thoughtful because I am very intentional about the conversations and interactions I have with others.


What Was your favorite class/professor and why?

My favorite professor was Dr. Kim Roddis. She cared about the human first before the student, and she always made the material we learned lively and applicable.


What is something you wish more people knew about you?

I wish more people knew that I used to be a dancer and how much I loved it.


What are the top three things on your bucket list?

The top 3 things on my bucket list are to meet Chris Evans, learn how to figure skate, and see the northern lights.


What is something you learned about yourself during the unique COVID year?

Something I learned about myself during the COVID year is that I don’t like having class online.
